Breast Augmentation Benefits

We tailor a variety of safe and effective breast enhancement options to give you fuller, well-proportioned breasts. Breast augmentation can also help correct breast asymmetry (when one breast is noticeably smaller than the other). Many of our Swan Center patients say they feel more proportionate and confident in their clothing and swimsuits after having breast augmentation surgery.

What Are My Breast Implant Options?

The Swan Center offers a variety of breast implant options to meet each patient’s unique aesthetic goals. Here’s a closer look at each option available, including silicone implants, saline implants, and fat transfer breast augmentation.

Breast Implant Material

The two most popular options for adding volume to the breast are saline-filled implants and silicone cohesive gel implants. In select patients, a fat transfer may be considered. The Swan Center is proud to offer all three, giving patients the opportunity to choose how they want to achieve their individual aesthetic goals.

Dr. Bauer saw my vision and he made it happen. My breasts look very natural and proportional to my body. This has given me a new found confidence and I thank Dr. Bauer and his staff for all of their support.

We offer a full range of breast implants, including top-of-the-line options from Mentor. These implants are made in the United States and have an exceptional safety record. As Mentor LEAD surgeons, Dr. Bauer and Dr. Fardo offer valuable insights to Mentor to help them further refine and perfect their implant offerings. Discover more about the types of implants below.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone cohesive gel implants are a popular choice among our Swan Center patients due to their natural look and feel. Made with a silicone shell and filled with cohesive silicone gel, these implants closely mimic the movement and texture of natural breast tissue. Available in various sizes and projections, silicone implants allow patients to customize their desired look.

One key benefit of silicone implants is that routine breast screenings, such as mammograms, ultrasounds, and MRIs, can still be performed without interference. Any changes in the implants will be detected through these screenings, providing peace of mind and safety.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants consist of a silicone outer shell filled with a sterile saline (saltwater) solution. These implants are ideal for patients who already have a moderate amount of natural breast tissue, as they may have a slightly firmer feel and are more prone to visible rippling. In the rare event of a rupture, the saline is safely absorbed by the body.

Additionally, saline implants do not interfere with routine breast screenings, making them a viable option for many patients seeking a natural enhancement with minimal maintenance.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

For those interested in a more natural approach, fat transfer to the breasts offers a unique option for breast augmentation. This procedure involves removing fat from one area of the body (often the abdomen) and re-injecting it into the breasts. Fat transfer breast augmentation provides a subtle increase in volume using your body’s own fat, eliminating the need for implants.

Our experienced plastic surgeons at The Swan Center specialize in this technique, delivering beautiful and natural-looking results for patients who prefer a softer, more organic enhancement.

“Dr. Cat and the nurses I’ve had the pleasure of working with through this whole process have been above and beyond incredible! From my first consult to each and every appointment following they have made it such an easy process. Dr. Cat really listened and understood exactly what I wanted to accomplish with my surgery and my results were exactly what I wanted!”

What Type Is Right for Me?

Your lifestyle, individual preferences, anatomy, and aesthetic goals all play a vital role in determining which implant will work best for you. At your consultation, we will discuss your goals and expectations in detail, covering everything from implant type to incision placement so you can make the best, most informed decision for yourself.

Breast Implant Size

Choosing an appropriate breast implant size involves understanding body proportions and how breast shape and size fit into accentuating the shoulders, waist, hips, and buttocks. It’s all about enhancing your natural beauty by creating visual balance and beautiful cleavage while ensuring your comfort.

This is a very personal decision, unique to your body’s height, frame, weight, available breast tissue, muscle development, and lifestyle.

During your consultation, we will take your measurements and let you preview our full range of implants to see what fits you best. The right size implants will result in gorgeous breasts that look like they truly belong to you.

Breast Implant Placement

In general, there are two options for breast implant placement: directly behind the breast tissue above the pectoralis muscle (subglandular placement) and beneath the pectoralis muscle (subpectoral placement). A third, less frequently used option is subfascial placement, in which only a part of the muscle covers the implant.

Subpectoral placement is the ideal choice for most of our patients. Not only does it provide the most aesthetically pleasing result, but it also ages gracefully over time and does not interfere with imaging.

Breast Augmentation Incision Placement

Our plastic surgeons typically place breast implant incisions within the natural fold beneath the breast (inframammary incision).

You and your surgeon will discuss incision placement and length during your personal consultation. All of our surgeons specialize in a micro-incision approach using the introducer funnel. This approach minimizes visible scarring, decreases potential complications, and supports a faster recovery.

Commonly Combined Procedures

Many patients find that combining breast augmentation with complementary procedures can help them achieve their full body transformation goals. By strategically planning multiple treatments, you can optimize your surgical experience and results.

Commonly Combined Procedures:

  • Tummy Tuck: Perfect for addressing loose abdominal skin and weakened muscles, especially after pregnancy or significant weight changes. We’ll tighten and smooth your midsection for a more defined profile.
  • Liposuction: Removes stubborn fat deposits to enhance your body’s contours and create a more balanced, sculpted silhouette alongside your breast augmentation.
  • Mommy Makeover: A personalized combination of procedures designed to restore your pre-pregnancy body, typically involving breast enhancement, abdominal contouring, and targeted fat removal.

Our goal is helping you feel confident and beautiful. By customizing your procedure combination, we can create a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses your aesthetic vision.

What Is Having Breast Augmentation Surgery Like?

First, you will receive general anesthesia delivered by a board-certified anesthesiologist to ensure that you remain completely asleep and comfortable throughout your entire procedure. Your breast surgery specialist will carefully make their incisions and use an introducer funnel for the highest level of sterility and safety.

Dr. Bauer has innovated his own technique for greater shaping and stabilization. His breast augmentation procedure anchors the inframammary fold and uses composite breast sculpting for more predictable, long-term results.

After the procedure, you will wake up and be able to notice your new shape right away. Although you may experience some soreness and swelling, our patients typically report minimal discomfort after surgery. After resting in our comfortable recovery room for a while, we will prepare you to head back home and rest.

Although this procedure is quick and you can go home afterward, you must have someone drive you home and help out for the first day or two.

Recovery From Breast Augmentation

We prioritize your comfort and recovery by offering a range of post-procedure supplies and garments to support you during the healing process. With our customized protocols, most patients return to daily activities much sooner than average, making your recovery as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here’s a general timeline to help you understand what to expect:

Days 1 to 2

  • Rest and limit physical activity.
  • Swelling, tightness, and mild discomfort are common.
  • Begin wearing your prescribed surgical bra.

Days 3 to 5

  • Gradually resume light daily activities, such as walking around the house.
  • Many patients feel well enough to return to work, provided their job isn’t physically demanding.

Week 2

  • Swelling begins to decrease, though some bruising may persist.
  • You can transition to non-strenuous tasks and short walks for circulation.

Weeks 4 to 6

  • Continue wearing your supportive bra.
  • Resume light exercise, but avoid chest-focused workouts or heavy lifting.
  • Most swelling subsides, and your breasts begin to settle into a more natural position.

3 to 6 Months

  • Implants continue to “drop and fluff,” achieving a softer, more natural appearance.
  • Sensation in the breasts may normalize if it was altered post-surgery.

6 to 12 Months:

  • Full recovery is typically achieved, and scars begin to fade.
  • Your breasts will have settled into their final position.

Recovery experiences vary, so it’s important to listen to your body and follow your surgeon’s personalized instructions. If you have questions or need guidance during your healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here to make sure your recovery is smooth and successful.

“Dr. Fardo did my breast augmentation in September of 2022 and I couldn’t be happier! He came highly recommended from so many ladies I spoke with and he did not disappoint. I feel comfortable in my own skin now (after 3 babies). Forever thankful!!”

Breast Augmentation FAQ

Are breast implants better than breast augmentation with fat transfer?

It depends on your goals. Breast implants are ideal for achieving significant volume and shape changes, while fat transfer offers subtle, natural-looking enhancement using your own fat. Your surgeon will help you decide which option best meets your needs.

What’s the most natural looking breast implants?

For a natural look, many patients choose silicone gel implants or smaller, anatomically shaped implants. Placement under the muscle and proper sizing are also key factors in creating a natural appearance.

Do breast implants need to be replaced eventually?

While breast implants are not lifetime devices, they can last many years. Replacement is usually only necessary if complications occur or if you wish to change the size or type of implant.

Is breast enhancement surgery safe?

Yes, breast enhancement surgery is generally safe when performed by a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. Your surgeon will discuss potential risks and ensure the procedure is right for you.

Will the recovery be painful?

Discomfort is normal after surgery, but it’s usually manageable with prescribed pain medication and rest. Most patients describe the pain as mild to moderate and notice significant improvement within a week.

What type of bra should I wear after surgery?

You’ll need a supportive, non-underwire bra, such as a surgical or sports bra, to minimize swelling and support healing. Your surgeon will provide specific recommendations tailored to your recovery.

Do you have to massage your breasts for the implants to drop?

In some cases, your surgeon may recommend gentle massage techniques to help the implants settle into a natural position. Always follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions for the best results.
