Saline breast implants consist of a silicone outer shell filled with a sterile saline (saltwater) solution. In the rare event of a rupture, the saline is safely absorbed by the body.

In general, there are two options for breast implant placement: directly behind the breast tissue above the pectoralis muscle (subglandular placement) and beneath the pectoralis muscle (subpectoral placement). A third, less frequently used option is subfascial placement, in which only a part of the muscle covers the implant.
Subpectoral placement is the ideal choice for most of our patients. Not only does it provide the most aesthetically pleasing result, but it also ages gracefully over time and does not interfere with imaging.
